MATAF... thank you for the best forum on the web.

Please explain when a trend is a trend as opposed to a retracement?

e.g. Is an uptrend trend established by confirming a specific number of higher highs and higher lows?... if so, this could vary greatly on various charts.

Please explain an acceptable practice for establishing a trend. Does the direction have to be running for 1 day or maybe 1 hour if it is the hour chart?
is it profit related, ie the shorter term the chart indicating the trend, the smaller the potential profit from a trade?

I consider that a movement is a trend and not a retracement when I don't have a strong oposition between long term (daily chart) and short term (hourly chart)
